Mobile Accessibility Developer

WayAround is seeking a qualified, full-time Mobile Accessibility Developer to code, optimize, and troubleshoot our mobile app and website to create an accessible and enjoyable user experience with screen readers and other tools for people with vision loss.

The ideal candidate will have experience with implementing mobile accessibility standards or a willingness to learn. Attention to detail in user experience and documentation is essential. The Mobile Accessibility Developer will work closely with the WayAround co-founder to consistently achieve a high-quality, accessible user experience on the WayAround mobile app and mobile website.

Responsibilities

  • Understand project owner requirements and how they translate to application features
  • Collaborate with existing team to understand current accessibility standards and how they are implemented
  • Standardize and ensure the implementation and inclusion of those standards in current and future code
  • Collaborate with a team of IT professionals to set specifications for new application features
  • Write high-quality source code to program complete application updates within deadlines
  • Perform unit and integration testing, as applicable, before release
  • Perform accessibility testing and troubleshooting
  • Update the team on new mobile accessibility features available from iOS and Android
  • Conduct functional and non-functional testing
  • Troubleshoot and debug applications
  • Evaluate existing applications to reprogram, update, and add new features
  • Develop technical documents and handbooks to accurately represent application design and code

Requirements

  • Proven experience as application developer
  • Experience in designing and building applications
  • Experience with modern Javascript frontend and web development standards and technologies
  • In-depth knowledge of programming for iOS and Android operating systems and platforms using development tools
  • Knowledge or experience with hybrid mobile app development and frameworks is a plus
  • Ability to work with WordPress and other Content Management Systems to add accessibility optimization for viewing websites on mobile devices
  • Excellent understanding of software design and programming principles
  • A team player with excellent communication skills
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving capability
  • Knowledgeable in accessibility or willing to learn accessibility standards well beyond ADA requirements
  • Familiarity with current accessibility standards and tools, including web accessibility standards such as WAI-ARIA and platform-specific technology such as the iOS and Android screen readers, settings, and gestures
  • Familiarity with screen readers for laptops and PCs
  • Great attention to detail and time-management skills
  • Certified application developer is a plus

This is a remote position with a preference for someone in the Dallas, TX area. Exceptions can be made for the right candidate. The Mobile App Developer will begin as a contract position with the potential to become a full-time employee. This position is a first hire for the accessibility team, and the right candidate could grow into an accessibility team lead. Compensation is commensurate with experience. Marketing Assistant

WayAround is seeking a qualified Marketing Assistant to support content posting and promotion on the WayAround blog, emails, YouTube channel, and social media platforms. 

The ideal candidate will have experience with web-based content systems for blogging, email, and social media management. The marketing assistant will work closely with the COO to ensure content meets brand standards, including accessibility standards. Attention to detail and strong writing and editing skills are desired.

Responsibilities

  • Post contributor blog content, including SEO optimization and image creation
  • Create images for blog posts, email, video, and social media
  • Post videos on YouTube and optimize for accessibility 
  • Ensure captions and transcripts meet brand and accessibility standards
  • Support webinars through promotion, attendee management, and follow-up
  • Promote webinar, blog, and video content across communication channels
  • Create new social media content for Facebook and Twitter
  • Optimize PDFs and other external documents for accessibility
  • Work with the accessibility team to ensure all content meets accessibility standards

Requirements

  • Experience with social media, including Facebook and Twitter
  • Familiarity with WordPress or other Content Management Systems
  • Familiarity with email marketing and automation systems
  • Ability to create and edit images in Photoshop or Canva
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Willingness to learn and adhere to accessibility standards
  • A team player with excellent communication skills
  • Great attention to detail and time-management skills
  • Experience with SEO and YouTube optimization is a plus, but not required 

This is a part-time, remote position with a preference for someone in New England. Exceptions can be made for the right candidate. The Marketing Assistant is a contract position for 15-20 hours per week. Compensation is commensurate with experience. WayAround is committed to hiring people with vision loss.
